Why we publish our prices

Every agency that hides its fees is running the same play, and it costs both sides time. Here is what we charge, why those numbers, and what happens when a job does not fit them.

Go and look at ten branding or web studio websites. Nine of them will have a Services page, a Work page, a page about their process with three or four words in it, and no prices anywhere. To find out what anything costs you have to fill in a form, get on a call, and sit through a discovery conversation.

There is a reason for that, and it is not a bad reason. It is just not a reason that benefits you.

The argument for hiding prices

Two things are true. First, agency work genuinely varies — a five-page site and a booking platform with a thirteen-collection catalogue are not the same job, and one number cannot cover both. Second, a studio that gets you on a call can find out what the work is worth to you before it quotes, and price accordingly.

The first is a real problem. The second is the actual reason, and it is why the practice survives.

What it costs both sides

The person shopping for a website has to book four calls to find out that three of the four studios are outside their budget. That is four hours of their week gone to learn one number each.

And the studio takes four calls to find out that three of those people were never going to buy. Everyone involved has spent a morning discovering something that a line of text could have told them in a second.

If a price would have ended the conversation, it should have ended the conversation before either of us got on a call.

What we charge

Three numbers. They are on our pricing section and they are the same numbers that appear in our proposals.

The Diagnosis — free

A written review of your website and brand, back within 48 hours. Findings ranked by what they are costing you. Any fix we can do in under two hours, we do for nothing, whether or not you hire us. There is no card and no call required.

Build — from £500

A small site, designed, written, built, tested and live on your own domain, in two to three weeks. Copy written for you. Forms that work. Analytics set up and training delivered. Unlimited revisions within the agreed scope. Payment split in two.

Build and Creative — £3,000 to £4,500

Everything above, plus research, logo, a full brand system, licensed imagery bought into your own account, and a booking platform or product catalogue where the project needs one. Three to four weeks, paid in three stages against agreed triggers.

Why those numbers

Because we are a young company. That is the whole answer, and we would rather say it than dress it up.

A studio with fifteen years of case studies charges more than we do, and is entitled to. We are trading price for work we are proud to show, and for clients who will still be with us when our prices are not these prices. That trade is deliberate and it is temporary, and anybody taking it now gets a level of attention a bigger studio would not give a small job.

What happens when a job does not fit

Sometimes it will not. A platform with an unusual integration, a migration off something awkward, a brand that needs naming and trademark searching before anything gets designed — none of that fits neatly in three tiers.

When that happens we do the Diagnosis first, then quote the actual job in writing, with a fixed price and a fixed date. The number in the proposal is the number on the invoice. Anything outside it is quoted separately and only starts once you have approved that quotation in writing.

Two things this buys us

The first is obvious: the people who contact us have already decided the number is survivable, so the first conversation is about the work rather than about money.

The second is less obvious. Publishing a price is a commitment. Once it is written on a public page we cannot quietly charge one client more than another because we sensed they could afford it. It keeps us honest in a way a private quote does not, and that is worth more to us than the margin we give up.

One thing we will say plainly

If a cheaper fix solves your problem, we will tell you, even when it costs us the bigger job. We have advised people to fix a contact form and keep the site they have. It is not generosity — it is that we would rather be the studio you come back to in two years than the one that sold you something you did not need.
